Ephesians 4:1-6
Therefore I, the prisoner in the Lord, urge you to walk worthy of the calling you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope[a] at your calling— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.
Paul in Ephesians 4 gives believers the challenge to walk worthy of the calling placed on the believer by Jesus to go and make disciples of all nations. Paul encourages the church by reminding us that in order for the body to function properly, it must operate in unity. What happens when our arms aren’t synchronized with each other during a swim? When our legs are not working together in the same timing during a run? Why do one-legged ducks swim in a circle? Our body is designed to work in harmony with its other members. So is true with the body of Christ. When we work together in unity, though there can be challenges, it is WORTH the effort.
“When the tide comes in, all the ships ride high in the water” a former pastor I used to serve under told me once. When we come together in unity to accomplish the agenda of the Lord, for forces of evil better watch out! THIS morning, September 25th is “See You at the Pole,” a prayer movement where students gather at their flag pole and pray for their school, their country, and their churches. Prayers will be prayed for the lost to find salvation, the sinner to find repentance, and the wayward to find their way home. What a beautiful picture we would see if we could see every gathering and hear every prayer!
Tonight, we have “Clarksville United,” a multi-church youth event designed to reach teens with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thousands of dollars and many hours of planning have gone into the event…but more importantly, the effort has been shouldered by many churches in the area. Last year, 22 different churches were represented, and new churches have jumped in this year! Because of the unity among the churches, students will come tonight because their friends (that go to different churches) are all coming. More lost students coming means more that have the opportunity to hear the gospel! We are praying for over 1000 students and leaders and over 100 salvations! Would you join me in prayer for God to move tonight?
