1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
In a world that measures success by what we possess, our achievements, or the titles we hold, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. We often find ourselves striving for more. More comfort, more recognition, more security. In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, God’s will is laid out plainly, and it has nothing to do with the externals of life.
God’s will for us isn’t rooted in our circumstances but in how we respond to them. The charge given in these verses is simple: Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything. It’s not about the external achievements but the internal posture of our hearts.
To rejoice always is to anchor our joy in Christ, not in fleeting moments of success. It means choosing joy even in hardship because we know God is sovereign.
To pray constantly is to live in continual communion with God, acknowledging our dependence on Him in every moment. Prayer aligns our will with His and keeps us sensitive to His leading.
To give thanks in everything is to recognize God’s goodness even in the mundane and difficult. Gratitude is the antidote to discontentment, and it shifts our focus from what we lack to the grace we’ve already received.
God’s will for our lives is not complicated or dependent on our circumstances. It is about having a heart of joy, prayer, and gratitude, no matter where we find ourselves. This is His good, pleasing, and perfect will for us.
