Jeremiah 18:1-4
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Go down at once to the potter’s house; there I will reveal my words to you.” 3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, working away at the wheel.[a] 4 But the jar that he was making from the clay became flawed in the potter’s hand, so he made it into another jar, as it seemed right for him to do.
One of the fascinating characteristics about God is His sovereignty. Our creator, who sees all things and knows all things, is not surprised by any action we can muster in our humanity. He is a God who can “work all things together for our good” in ways we could never see coming. Our Elohim, “Creator” God, is outside of time, omniscient (all knowing), omnipresent (everywhere), and omnipotent (all powerful).
Did your kids or grandkids ever have a “lego pile?” My oldest two boys, Benjamin and Joshua, love legos! Over the years, they have been given many sets. Star Wars, superheroes, pirates…many an afternoon have been spent assembling incredibly designed and detailed structures. Usually whatever starship has been assembled sits on the shelf for a couple of weeks. And then, after it gets knocked off a few times, or trampled by a younger sibling, gets disassembled and put in the lego pile. Now I know some of you out there are thinking, “why not just disassemble the ship and put it in the box it came from?” Well my friend, that is always the goal. But in our house, we see entropy at its finest. With 5 kids, things go from order to disorder quickly. Hence, the Lego pile. Yet despite all the random pieces, it never ceases to amaze me how my sons can create such incredible scenes! “I remembered from last time I built it” they would tell me. Or “I just thought it would look cool” they would say.
Isn’t it comforting to know that no matter what “entropy” has occurred in your life, or the life of a loved one, the God we serve is willing and able to make a new and fresh design? Even something that “looks cool?” He is the master builder. The AUTHOR and FINISHER of our faith. He has plans for you! Will you let Him take your pieces and make a masterpiece? The potter makes cups for drinking, bowls for eating, and vases to hold beautiful flowers. God creates masterpieces for a purpose - to bring Him glory, and to help bring others to bring glory to the Father. How does He want to use you? Let’s bring glory to the Lord while the day is young. You never know when that younger sibling is going on the rampage.
