1 Samuel 25:28
Please forgive your servant’s offense, for the Lord is certain to make a lasting dynasty for my lord because he fights the Lord’s battles. Throughout your life, may evil not be found in you.
Whenever we think about battles we often think about the daily circumstantial battles in our lives. Battles for our soul, our attention, and our devotion to the Lord wage daily in our lives, and Scripture tells us that our battle is not with flesh and blood but with Satan and his demonic forces (Ephesians 6:12). We love to quote passages like Exodus 14:13-14 where Moses told the people at the Red Sea, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation that he will accomplish for you today…The Lord will fight for you, and you must be quiet.” Christ has already won the war for our soul by his glorious resurrection! Thank the Lord that our salvation is not up to us! If we are not careful we can allow grace to rock us to sleep in passivism, thinking that the Christian life is already complete.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes our salvation is secure through the cross and resurrection of Christ, but our sanctification is just beginning, and there are some battles that God wants us to win. God wants us to overcome evil with good, conquering hatred with love. God wants us to conquer fear by faith in His promises. Jesus wants us to claim victories in prayer for our children. The Father wants us to fight for the souls of lost friends and family members through the powerful witness of the gospel. The Lord wants us to fight the good fight through prayer and worship. Yes, Jesus has won the war for our soul, but there are daily battles to fight and win in Jesus name! So, are you fighting the Lord’s battles? Who are you fighting for in prayer? How are you fighting off temptation through the Word? How are you fighting for your family spiritually? How are you combatting the devil in your thought life? Today, reject passivity. The grace of God motivates us to fight and our weapons are spiritual for the destruction of strongholds. We walk in the power and authority of Jesus. Let’s fight and win the Lord’s battles.
