Psalm 139:13-14
“For it was you who created my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will praise you because I have been remarkably and wondrously made.  Your works are wondrous, and I know this very well.”

Who are we in Christ?  Well we are designed with intentionality, detail, and purpose.  It is interesting to me as a biology major how David mentions God created his inward parts.  Here are some interesting facts about our body’s “inward parts!”

*Scientists have counted over 500 different liver functions.  That is a lot of uses!

*The human body is estimated to have 60,000 miles of blood vessels - a length that could circle the globe 2 ½ times!
*The surface area of a human lung is equal to a tennis court. In order to more efficiently oxygenate the blood, the lungs are filled with thousands of branching bronchi and tiny, grape-like alveoli. These are filled with microscopic capillaries containing oxygen and carbon dioxide. The large amount of surface area makes it easier for this exchange to take place, and makes sure you stay properly oxygenated at all times.

Knowing the intentionality our creator used to craft our “inward parts” should lead us straight to worship!  David continues to say “I will praise you because I have been remarkably and woundrously made.”  Worshiping the Lord out of gratitude is a great way to cure a selfish heart.  Knowing our identity is in Christ gives us proper perspective.

Prayer -  Thank you father for your care and devotion in the miracle of my creation.  Help me to have a proper perspective and know my identity is not what others say about me, but in who YOU created me to be.  I love and I trust you.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
