1 Samuel 30:6
6 And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
Seasons of life that we go through can have us in a deeply distressed state. If you haven’t gone through loss or tragedy, you will. That is just a part of life. We see here King David in a season of distress. He and the men who were following him returned to where they were living to find their town burned down and to the news that their family had been abducted. All this news added to his already distressed state of being on the run for his life from Israel’s former King Saul. He was in a mess.
In the midst of the mess, David did not choose to wallow in despair, or numb the pain he was feeling, he chose to strengthen Himself in the Lord. David in his distressing situation chose to entrust himself to the only One who could give him strength: The Lord. He knew that his military accolades and known fame couldn’t help him in this moment, so he chose to run to the Lord. David exhibited a posture of surrender to the Lord and ran to Him during his low moment. May we choose to respond the way King David did, in a posture of surrender in our distressing seasons. He is the only One who is able to strengthen us to continue forward in those times.
