Psalm 1:1-2
Blessed is the man[a]
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law[b] of the Lord,
and on his law, he meditates day and night.
Delighting in the law of the Lord. To delight in something is more than just taking it in when you may need it. The word delight in the original language here in Psalms 1 speaks to enjoyment/desire. What the Psalmist is saying here is that those who choose not to just get into the word out of obligation or ritual, but rather enjoy or desire to get into His word will be blessed. Wow!
Beloved, it is when we choose to enjoy diving into God’s word and choosing to meditate on what we read, that we can walk in the blessed life. The blessed life consists of following King Jesus in obedience as He leads and guides us. The blessed life consists of exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit as we go about our days. The blessed life is not about us, but rather a life lived honoring God.
Do you enjoy getting into God’s word? Do you long for time in His word to learn the truth and hear from Him? If not, I encourage you to pray to the Lord that He would cultivate a love for spending time with Him and His word.
Psalm 119:103-104
103 How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through your precepts I get understanding;
therefore I hate every false way.
