Matthew 8:25-26

“And they came to Him and woke Him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing!” 26 He said to them, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?”

When we’re anxious, the last thing we want to hear is that we just need to have more faith. At this point in Jesus’ relationship with His disciples, they’d seen Him work many miracles; they’d seen signs that pointed to His identity as God’s Son and His power. Jesus allowed His disciples to struggle, yes, but He brought them comfort, encouragement, and rescue, right there in the middle of it all. Jesus may choose to calm the storm right away. But He might also let us experience the storm, allowing us to learn to trust in His presence and power and growing our faith. Faith is not confidence that trials won’t come your way. Faith is confidence that no matter what wind and waves come your way in this world, the God of the universe will be right there in the boat with you.
