Matthew 14:29-31
And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

One summer night during a severe thunderstorm a mother was tucking her small son into bed. She was about to turn the light off when he asked in a trembling voice, "Mommy, will you stay with me all night?" Smiling, the mother gave him a warm, reassuring hug and said tenderly, "I can't dear. I have to sleep in Daddy's room." A long silence followed. Then the little boy spoke up and said, "That big sissy!"

Truth be told we are all big sissies sometimes. Fear is something every human being deals with and for some people it can be paralyzing. After Jesus miraculously fed the 5,000 with 5 loaves and two fish, He made the disciples jump into a boat and row to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. This proved to be quite a chore with the wind blowing against them and the waves threatening to capsize the vessel. Then, out of nowhere, Jesus comes walking on the water to the disciples. They think it’s a ghost and cry out in terror, but Jesus calms their fears and reveals that it is Him. What happens next is extraordinary! Peter asks Jesus to call him out on the water….and Jesus obliges! Peter steps out of the boat and begins to walk. We aren’t told how far or how long he walked, but the fact that he stepped out and did the impossible is remarkable! However, while walking on the water Peter’s eyes began to shift again to the storm and he began to sink. Thankfully, Jesus stepped in and saved him from drowning, and he escorted Peter back into the boat with the other disciples and the storm subsided.

Storms are inevitable, and in the midst of the storms of life there are all kinds of uncomfortable circumstances that arise. The good news today is that Jesus is standing on whatever you’re drowning in. He is sovereign over every difficulty and invites you to step out of the boat of fear and complacency and follow Him by faith. Faith is what activates the supernatural in your life, so if you want a blessing jump on out there. Take God at His Word and watch Him work it out. He heals disease, restores mental health, delivers from addiction, brings restoration to broken relationships, and provides in our time of need. Nothing is too difficult for Jesus! Don’t be a slave to your circumstances, rather walk by faith in the freedom of Christ!
