Psalm 144:1-2 NLT
1Praise the Lord, who is my rock.
He trains my hands for war
and gives my fingers skill for battle.
2 He is my loving ally and my fortress,
my tower of safety, my rescuer.
He is my shield, and I take refuge in him.
He makes the nations submit to me.
All kinds of giants come our way. Battles come in all shapes and sizes, but one thing is for sure, we share the same enemy. Satan seeks to defeat us, define us, and derail us, but David reminds us in Psalm 144 that we have a mighty warrior on our side.
Is the LORD your rock? Your loving ally and fortress? What a safe place of victory from which to battle. God not only fights for us, but He himself is our shield, and we can take refuge in Him. What confidence that gives us for daily victory!
Goliath may have had six fingers on his gigantic hands, but David’s fingers were skilled for battle. God knows these giants that taunt us. He trains us and equips us for the war our enemy wants to bring against us. With the full armor of God we can take a stand when (not if)that day comes. With the helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit, shield of faith, belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, and feet readied in the gospel of peace; we can thwart the enemy’s tactical measures (see Ephesians 6:10-18). Not on our own, but by God’s might will we be strong. Our enemy, the devil, must submit to Jesus our King.
Let Psalm 144 become your battle attitude this year. Praise the LORD, who is my rock. We have nothing to fear with Jehovah Tsaba, the Lord our Warrior on our side. As David told Goliath, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:45).
What are you up against this week? What has been the biggest struggle in your current season of life? Where do you feel weak and prone to attack? Maybe it’s time to change your battle attitude. May we not run and hide, or flex our own muscles, but seek the Lord in prayer. More than the flesh and blood struggle we see in front of us, what we are really fighting in is a daily spiritual battle. Therefore, daily prayer is where we will win these battles. Frustrations can wear us down. When we are anxious to see answers or change, it can be hard to wait. In a quick fix world, our fight can grow lax. Don’t give up! Pray for yourself, others, the church, the nation…keep fighting by continuing to pray. Prayer is our victorious battle attitude.
PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Father God, you see my fears and frustrations today. Keep me going today Jesus; in You I am strong. Praise the Lord, you are my rock! Fight for me and thwart all plans of the enemy today to defeat me. Lord, I surrender ________to you today. Only you can defeat that giant so that my life may bring you glory. In Jesus Name, Amen.
MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
Hosea 6:3- Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord;
his going out is sure as the dawn;
he will come to us as the showers,
as the spring rains that water the earth.”
