Psalm 119:105 (NLT)

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet

and a light for my path.

Have you ever tried to walk around in the dark?  Without light, we are unable to see our path.  A trip to the bathroom or a quick check on a sleeping baby can be dangerous if an unexpected shoe or toy is lurking ahead of us in the shadows.  Even in a familiar walkway, we can become disoriented and bump into a wall or a piece of furniture.  But, with a flip of a light switch or a flashlight, our path is illuminated.  Are you fumbling in the dark today? God is Light, and Psalm 119 tells us that His Word is the lamp that guides our feet.

God is light, and in him is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5).

Psalm 119 explains that God’s Word is like a flashlight that lights the path ahead of us and keeps us from stumbling.  On our own, our path is blind, full of obstacles and dangers.  At best, we may fumble and swerve to miss a collision, but God didn’t create us to just fumble and swerve—He created us to thrive.

Jesus said, “the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10).

Do you walk on a path that is well-lit by God’s Word?  God’s Word sustains us; His commands are our constant guide (Psalm 119:98).  Do you learn His pathway and heed His instruction? We are not guaranteed a life without obstacles, but we don’t have to be afraid.  As we traverse the path, our Lord directs us and promises us joy and peace that is incomparable to anything in this world can offer (John 14:27).

God’s Word is our source of hope (Psalm 119:114).

The Psalmist reminds us that God’s Word is desirable and tastes sweeter than honey (Psalm 119:103).  It is perfect and completely trustworthy (Psalm 119:138).  God’s Word revives us and comforts us (Psalm 119:50), and is the joy we find in the midst of suffering, pressure, and stress (Psalm 119:95,143).  Why do we ever go it alone, when so much goodness is promised in His commands?

Hope is stored in our heart each time we read God’s Word.

Are you worried or stressed today? Are you unsure what path to take? God beckons us to His perfect Word. Bask in the warmth of his light and truth; find refuge and surefootedness in the glow of His lamp.  Spend time reading and studying the Bible–it truly has a lasting effect on our life!  Start today by reading Psalm 119 in its entirety.  Study the Bible, learn the scriptures, memorize verses, and read of Christ from beginning of the Bible to the end—it makes a difference in our life!  Believers, the Holy Spirit who dwells within us teaches us and reminds us of everything that Jesus has taught us (John 14:26). The result of the Holy Spirit’s work in our life is a deep and lasting peace.  We can have confident assurance in any circumstance as we stand on the promises of God’s Word.  Walk today on a well lit path today.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father God, thank you for the blessed assurance you give me in all of Your promises. Teach me more about You and grow my desire to read Your Word more each day.  Show me how to follow Your ways, rather than fumble in the dark on my own.  I lay all of my worries and stress at Your feet today, and bask in your peace instead. You alone are the source of my hope and comfort!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen
