AN “IMPACT-TOUGH” FAITH

AN “IMPACT-TOUGH” FAITH

Megan Evans, Women’s Ministry Director LHBC

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Recently I found myself staring at several broken Christmas decorations laying in pieces on the floor. Our family had just returned home from visiting relatives over Christmas, and Ruby, our sweet but mischievous cat, had apparently entertained herself while we were gone. I grabbed a bottle of super glue for repairs, and noticed the label was branded with a slogan claiming to be an “Impact-Tough” formula.  I’d like to be “Impact-Tough,” wouldn’t you? But it’s more than just being tough, because on our own, we will eventually fall apart. I thought about that slogan as I dotted glue and held the pieces in place for ten seconds as the bottle instructed. How do I react to sudden impact and collisions that interrupt life? How do I react under pressure, hurt, or uncertainty?

The “Impact-Tough” slogan is very applicable as we weather life through various seasons with a steadfast faith.  Unlike my quick-drying super glue however, a steadfast faith needs time and intentionality. Just becoming a Christian won’t make our life “Impact-Tough.” While it takes only a single moment in time to surrender our life to Jesus, daily we are called to walk in our faith and grow in our relationship with our Savior.  We have a choice each day to spend time with God. We have the choice to show God’s love to others. We have the choice to trust in the Lord. In today‘s key verse we are called to have a steadfast, or unwavering faith.  Our verse tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart.  Not just the easy stuff, not just the really hard stuff, but everything in every moment of the day.

We are quick to trust God with our eternity, but why is it hard sometimes to trust him with our day?  You are not alone if your heart already has a few cracks and repaired seams. Life really is hard, and it just doesn’t make sense sometimes.  But that is when we are reminded not to depend on our self and our own understanding, but to submit to Jesus and His ways.  When Jesus is Lord of our life, he calls the shots. Jesus tells us to trust in Him with all of our heart.  When we do, we are reassured that He will show us the next step, and will give us the strength we need to take it.  God’s path always leads straight to himself, so we don’t need to worry when things don’t make sense to us. Will you trust in the Lord today?

PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Dear Lord, I submit my whole heart to you today.  Guide my attitudes and actions. Remind me throughout the day to trust in you, rather than my own understanding. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

MEMORY VERSE FOR THE WEEK:
Lamentations 3:22-23 – The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
