Isaiah 40:28-31

Have you not known? Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God,

    the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint or grow weary;

    his understanding is unsearchable.

He gives power to the faint,

    and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Even youths shall faint and be weary,

    and young men shall fall exhausted;

but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;

    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;

they shall run and not be weary;

    they shall walk and not faint.

Back in the college days a good friend and I were asked to speak at a youth conference in the Dallas area on Friday/Saturday. The location of the camp we were speaking was about 4 hours from where our school was. I was slated to preach Saturday early evening at the retreat center, but then I had to hurry back to campus because I was preaching at my church the next morning. Since we were young college kids, we thought we could swing the quick turnaround, however we came to realize very quickly that we could not! We ended up leaving Dallas at around midnight and arriving back on campus around 4am Sunday morning. The experience was absolutely terrible. We were so tired the whole drive. We tried all we could to keep ourselves awake during the drive. We rode down the interstate blaring loud music, but that didn’t work. We tried hitting each other but that didn’t work either.However, when we stopped for gas we got some candy and that sugar-rush propelled us to the finish line. Also by the Lord’s grace, He multiplied those three hours of sleep I got that night and was able to preach Sunday morning but I was tired!

Maybe you can relate to being tired today. Perhaps this season has been a crazy one for you and your family, and it has left you exhausted. Whether it has been a season of running kids to different events, or the craziness of trying to meet various deadlines at work, the word that would describe where you are right now is tired.Perhaps you are even at a point where you want to throw in the proverbial towel on the responsibilities. Well I have some good news for you today, though you may be tired, we serve a God who never gets tired and is able to renew our strength!

This is the truth the prophet Isaiah shares with us from Isaiah 40! Though it seems as though life has beaten you up; though it seems as though you are too tired to keep going on, don’t throw in the towel, trust in HIM! Isaiah lays out that the God of the Universe is the everlasting God who does not get tired or weary. Aren’t you thankful for that truth today?! He goes on to share about how God in whom He is willing to meet His weary children where they are and minister to them. In vs. 29 he says that God gives power to the faint. Though you are exhausted, trust in the Lord, run to Him and He will give you the power to keep going; He gives you the strength to continue. It doesn’t stop there though. This same unlimited strength is always available for the child of God. He is in the business of renewing your strength! Isn’t that awesome? You do not have to sit in your exhaustion and weariness, but rather you can look up and run to the Lord and let Him renew your strength today.

You may be exhausted beyond belief today due to the craziness, but the Lord God wants to renew your strength. Don’t throw in the towel, trust in Him. Choose to run to Him today!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Your love for me. I am exhausted today. Please renew my strength and give me the strength to live for You in my family, at my work and in my life. Amen!
