1 John 5:13-15
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

1 John 5 highlights a few of the greatest promises for Christians! In a time when society wants to preach that there is no absolute truth; In a time where the call is to preach skepticism, we can rejoice because there are promises we can hold onto in this life that we know are true.

1)Assurance of Eternal Life: John the Revelator highlights the truth in verse 13 that in Jesus Christ we can have assurance of eternal life. We do not have to guess whether or not we have eternal life, we don’t have to wonder if we have it either. All of those who are in Christ can have assurance that they have eternal life.

The reality of this truth changed my life. I was the one who doubted my faith when I became a Christian in the latter part of high school. After every message I was doubting whether or not I was saved due to the conviction from the Holy Spirit. What I realized was that I was saved and the conviction was because of sin in my life that I needed to give to the Lord. Listen, the bible in 2 Corinthians 13 tells us to examine ourselves to see if we truly know Jesus, but listen, if you have repented of your sins and trusted in Jesus, YOU ARE SAVED! You are His forever. You have eternal life. Do not let doubt cripple your walk with Jesus. You are His, the sheep of His pasture Psalm 100 tells us. You are His forever, for no one can pluck you out of His hand John 10:27-28 says! We have assurance of eternal life.

2) Assurance that He Hears us in Prayer:  Aren’t you glad the Lord is attentive to our prayers? John says that we can have confidence to ask Him anything according to His will, He hears us. He hears that prayer about the wayward family member who has ventured away from the faith. He hears that prayer about that friend who is lost! He hears that prayer in the darkest season of your life, and that praise in the brightest. Our God hears us! Praise the Lord! What is even better is that in vs. 15 we see that when we pray in accordance to His will He answers. Prayer Matters! So let us pray in faith!

This morning choose to take heart friend! We have this blessed assurance of our eternal life, as well as assurance that the Lord hears us in prayer! Choose to rejoice today! We do not deserve the gift of eternal life, but God in His grace provided that gift through His Son!  Praise the Lord! This truth reminds me of an old hymn you probably know:

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
O, what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for Your Salvation! Thank you for your assurance! Help me to continue to trust in You and walk with You day by day. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
