John 14:1-7
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

The other week I was driving home after a long day. I was tired, it was late, and all I wanted to do was get home and go to bed. I was mulling over the weekly to-do list still needing a few boxes to be checked off. I was mentally making a plan to get it all done the following day and I was a little distracted with all that was swimming around in my head and somehow missed my turn to get home. I realized I missed the road so I began to try and backtrack but there wasn’t a good place to make a U-Turn, so instead I opted to make turns until I got back to where I needed to go. I thought I was familiar enough with the area to get back without help but after about 10 minutes of making circles I realized I was totally lost. I pulled off to the side of the road and grabbed my phone, opened up my maps, plugged in the address to my home, and breathed a sigh of relief. Finally… I still had no idea where I was or what roads to take in order to get home, but I knew that if I just followed the map I would get there.

In John chapter 14 Jesus was speaking to His disciples. Jesus was starting to have conversations about His upcoming death and made the comment that He is going to His Father’s house to prepare a place for His disciples. The disciples, obviously confused by this, respond they don’t know where Jesus is planning to go and therefore won’t be able to come after Him. Jesus’ response, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Basically Jesus is saying, you want to know how to get to where I am going? Follow me! Now Jesus isn’t saying here to follow Him physically like we might with a map when we are lost, He is saying He IS the map. His life is the roadmap we must follow. Jesus came to the earth as a man not just to do some good deeds and die for our sins, He didn’t just come to make a way for us to go to heaven, He came to show us how we might live here on earth. He came to be an example of holiness and godly living so we might glorify our Father in heaven while here on earth! Jesus is our perfect example in all things. He is the map. Are you lost today friend, seeking how to live a life holy and acceptable? Pull out the map! Look to Jesus and His life, His example, and follow Him! He will get you home!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus and His perfect example! Lord, when I am lost help me to look to You and Your perfect example! Help me to live a life holy and pleasing to You while I am on this side of heaven! In Jesus name, amen!

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:

for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
