Isaiah 43:19  (ESV)
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
    now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
    and rivers in the desert.

Be glad in this day and get excited; God is always doing a new thing! Every single day God promises victory through Jesus Christ. And two things are certain:

  1. Our Creator and King always fulfills His promises.
  2. His victory never runs out!

As our world begins to emerge from the confines of the COVID-19 pandemic, our bodies may be tired and life may feel upside down, but God’s Word says to keep looking forward! There is newness in each day. Let us trust the Lord for our fresh new steps.  Let us drink of His Living Water and stay hydrated as we move forward.

We don’t have to let yesterday’s circumstances determine our hope for today or tomorrow.  Instead, we can read of God’s miraculous work in the past and be reminded of God’s goodness that is yet to come.  Isaiah 43 reminds us that God is in charge.  Isaiah 43:15 says, “I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, your King.”  With His mighty arm, He parts waters and summons armies.  He protects, He provides, He redeems.  And the best is yet to come! God says to make way, because He is already on the move.  “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?”

God speaks through Isaiah and promises His people that He will once again redeem them. All the while, Isaiah’s prophecy pointed to an even greater deliverance and redemption through our Savior Jesus Christ.  As followers of Jesus today we can still prepare the way for Christ’s return.  It is exciting to think of all the ways God is on the move in our life and in the world around us! We worship a Living God who still makes ways out of the wilderness and flows fresh water of rivers through deserts!

The miracles God had done for His people in the past would be nothing compared to what God had in store for them! Isaiah 43:18 says, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old” (ESV).  I love the New Living Translation wording of this verse, “But forget all that-it is nothing compared to what I am going to do” (Isaiah 43:18 NLT).  God was, and still is on the move! God still parts waters and allows us to cross on dry land, but as the idiom goes, we “ain’t seen nothin’ yet!”

Are you stuck thinking God has used up His goodness in your life?  Has complacency compartmentalized God’s movement into stories of the Bible rather than daily life? Don’t settle for the wilderness.  Look up above the horizon of today.  Behold! God is doing a new thing—and even now it is springing forth.  Don’t get stuck in the past; Seek the Lord, keep looking forward!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Father God, I give you all praise and glory today! May your will be done in my life and in this world.  Lord, You are at work even when I don’t perceive it. Forgive me for the times I have let my circumstances rob me of the joy and hope you give in each day.  Keep my eyes focused on You, Lord—help me to keep looking forward.  May the newness of life in You spring forth each day.  In Jesus Name, Amen.
