Ephesians 1:7

7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

Recently I had the opportunity to travel to Uganda to spend time with some of my family whom I had never met before. The trip was such a blessing! One of my favorite days consisted of seeing a venue called Uganda Place of the Martyrs. The venue was a park with statues of some of the first Christian martyrs in Uganda in the 19th century.  The venue had many interesting facts about life in indigenous Uganda and how Christianity was brought into the country. Though there were many great statues and sites to see, one of the items that stood out the most happened to be a sign that been created and set up all around the different trash bins in the park All the signs read: “The Blood of These Martyrs are the seed of our faith”. Seeing those signs could not help but to get me thinking: Though those who died for standing up for the Lord were noble individuals, their shed blood is not the seed nor the root of our current faith in God, Christ’s blood is. Yes, their example of boldness and courage we all ought to follow, but their blood being shed has no saving power. Jesus’ blood does though! Hallelujah!

The bible tells us that the shed blood of Jesus is the seed of our faith. It is only by His blood we have atonement for our soul. It is only by His blood we receive forgiveness of our sins. His blood saves us and sustains us. As Paul says here in Ephesians 1:7, it’s only by the blood of Jesus that one can be redeemed! There is still power in the blood of Jesus! Aren’t you thankful for the blood? Hallelujah! Every day we ought to choose to have a heart of thanksgiving because we have been washed in the blood of Jesus.

As you go about your day today in the Lord, choose to reflect on the blood of Christ; how by His wounds we have been healed; how because of our transgressions His body was pierced. His mercy and grace for us is what led Him to lay His life down so that we could have life. As you go about your day today in Christ, choose to reflect on the good news of the sacrifice of Christ and rejoice in Him. It is only by His shed blood that we have forgiveness of sins and can be restored into proper fellowship and relationship with Him again. May we never grow weary of praising God for the blood of Jesus that was shed on that ol’ rugged cross!

PRAYER FOR TODAY: Jesus, we thank you for your blood! Thank you for laying your life down on that old rugged cross so that I can have life in Christ again! Help me to never grow tired of rejoicing because of Your sacrifice for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:

Hebrews 9:22-22

Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
