Psalm 37:25
I have been young, and now am old,
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
or his children begging for bread.

King David, the writer of Psalm 37, was known as being one of the greatest kings in the History of Israel. He was known as a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). He at this point of this Psalm had lived a good and full life and was near the end. Right at the heart of this Psalm he shares some impactful wisdom through a testimony that we all could grab a hold of and hold onto. He states that throughout his life he had never seen the Lord forsake His own or them begging for bread.

David in his statement in vs 25 gives some encouragement for us to hold onto in our life moving forward:

  1. The Lord is Faithful: King David makes mention that he had never seen the righteous forsaken or begging for bread. The Lord was both faithful to provide and take care of His children, but also never forsook them. Wow. What a word. He is the same for us by the way! He is a God who is ever generous, who takes care of His children but even more than that, He is a God who will never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). What an encouragement! God is faithful. More faithful that that idol you want to chase, more faithful than your best friend. He is faithful! Aren’t you glad that he is faithful today?
  2. We Can Trust Him: Since the Lord is faithful, we can trust Him. King David makes mention earlier in the Psalm of this call to Trust in the Lord and do good (v.3). His son King Solomon in Proverbs 3:5-6 makes mention for us to trust in the Lord with all our heart! Since the Lord is faithful, our response should be to trust Him in every season of life. David at the lowest times of his life, from the mess he got himself in after committing adultery with Bathsheba, to running for his life while his son Absalom was chasing to kill him, he saw that God was always there.. We are His children forever, so let us choose to trust Him with our life and make Him Lord of our life.

I too can personally testify to the Lord’s faithfulness in my life and I know you can as well. May this morning as we meditate on David’s testimony of God’s goodness, remember that He really is faithful, and that we can trust him with our lives every single day!
