Psalm 29:10-11 (NLT)
The LORD rules over the floodwaters.
    The LORD reigns as king forever.
11 The LORD gives his people strength.
    The LORD blesses them with peace.

At times our fragile world appears daunted and helpless in the face of evil, but oh when we listen to what God has to say!  Seeing and hearing about danger and threat can leave us feeling helpless, but in these moments we have a choice.  Will we listen to the voice of intimidation and fear or will we listen instead to the Lord?

There is perfect power in God’s Word…and peace.  His voice is still alive and active in this world today.  When people, places, and perils threaten our world, we have safety and peace in the fortress of the Lord.  Let us cry out to Him in prayer and intercede on the behalf of others.  David wrote of God’s strength and power in Psalm 29, and it is a balm for any fearful heart today.  May we echo its words in prayer.

Floodwaters are no match for the King of Kings, nor are the waves of the wicked.  Our God still rules, reigns, gives, and blesses us even on this very day!  Evil may appear to be in charge for a moment, but Jesus is on the throne. Just listen to Psalm 29:3-4,

The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea.
    The God of glory thunders.
    The Lord thunders over the mighty sea.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
    the voice of the Lord is majestic.

This is the language of full and final authority, and this strength is WHO we pray to.  We don’t have to bow to worry and anger or throw up our hands in complacency.  Let us instead shout “glory” and bend our knee to the Living God who makes the barren wilderness quake. This psalm reminds us that God of Glory can shake the desert with His thunderous voice, snap the mighty cedars, flash with lightning, and cause mountains to skip and leap (Psalm 29:5-9).  Who is there to fear with God on our side?

The world may build structures, armies, and weapons, but these are fleeting and easily crumble at the sound of the Lord’s voice.  Word of God speak around the globe today.  We pray for strength and protection for those in danger.  May your voice continue to make a way for the hope of the Gospel. Protect the mouths that will speak it today and the tender ears who will receive it.  Jesus, we cry out for your strength and might this day.  Do it again O Lord!

Let us not waste our body’s energy today on worry or waste precious time stewing over the problem.  Expend where there is power.  Pray.

Daily we will hear loud voices in our broken world and we see its destruction all around, but when we are firmly planted in the Lord we will remain unshakable.  Rooted in this strength we can then focus our attention to prayer and trust.  Whether we are praying for a far-away nation or for our very own home, we can rest in the power of the voice of the Lord.  And as we rest in the protection of God’s power and mighty voice, there is one more promise….the Lord blesses us with peace. What a beautiful gift as we trust in you God of glory.  Thank you, Jesus.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Father God, you are Almighty. Greater than any nation or threat, you are God of glory,  King of Kings.  I trust in you and stand on your Truth over any fear in this world today.  I stand in the gap and pray mightily for those in harm’s way.  Thank you for the promise of your strength and blessing of your peace today. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Psalm 46:11
The Lord of hosts is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.
