Luke 23:24

“And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” And they cast lots to divide his garments.”

Tomorrow is Good Friday and I think at times, it is puzzling as to what is good about the day Jesus was crucified. Easter Sunday is great because it is the day, we celebrate Christ’s resurrection from the grave but what is so good about Friday? Some of you will remember the B.C. comics drawn by Johnny Hart. A favorite of mine was when two of the cavemen were discussing Good Friday and one says to the other that he doesn’t like the term “good” because his Savior was hung on a tree that day. The other caveman asked him, “If you were going to be hanged on that day, and He volunteered to take your place, how would you feel?” The first caveman responded, “Good.”

That has always stuck with me. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice of giving His life in place of mine and yours. Doesn’t that make you feel overjoyed, humbled, grateful, and the list goes on. How could Jesus be hanging on the cross, taking all of mankind’s sins upon Him, yet He is still thinking of us and asking for the Lord to forgive us? I know that I could never do that but am thankful that we serve a Savior who could. The reality is that every day is a “good” day when you are walking with Jesus. Take a minute and just focus on what Christ did for us and give Him thanks for He is GOOD!
