Judges 21:2525 In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.

In Judges 18-21 you see the phrase “In those days there was no king in Israel mentioned at least once per chapter. Whether it is mentioned in the beginning of the chapter or the end, there is significance to the statement. The people of Israel neglected allowing Yahweh God to be the true King of their heart by deciding to worship other gods along with worshiping Him. What you see unfold as a result is chaos. The three chapters (Judges 18-21) highlights how such chaos ensued in the lives of several Israelites.

Here is the truth for us today: Jesus wants for us to make Him the King of our heart every single day. When we choose to neglect doing such, what happens is that we fall victim to “doing what is right in our own eyes” like the Israelites, resulting in chaos. Our Lord Jesus Christ is the only One who is worthy of our worship and adoration. Choosing to make Jesus King of our heart every day is making the decision to rid ourselves of the idols in our lives that are vying for our affections and our worship. Is Jesus King of your heart today? What idols are you worshiping that are vying for your affections that you need to get rid of? May we choose to make Jesus King today!
