Psalm 30:1-3;10-12

I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up

    and have not let my foes rejoice over me.

O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,

    and you have healed me.

O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;

    you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.[a]

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;

    you have loosed my sackcloth

    and clothed me with gladness,

that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.

    O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

One of my favorite choruses to an oldie but goodie worship songs comes from the song Wonderful Maker and it goes like this:

What a wonderful Maker

What a wonderful Savior

How majestic Your whispers

And how humble Your love

With a strength like no other

And the heart of a Father

How majestic Your whispers

What a wonderful God

I could see King David as he is penning this Psalm reflecting on the Lord’s goodness in His life and what all He has done for him. He speaks to when he called on the Lord and He answered Him. He received healing and restoration during a low moment in his life. He couldn’t help but to speak on and rejoice. The Psalm speaks to how God turned David’s mourning into dancing, how in meeting David where he was, he had been clothed with gladness. Oh what a wonderful God we serve!

We too, if we have been following the Lord for any period of time, could hold and express the same jubilation for who God is and what He has done for us. He has saved us through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He sustains us in Him! He provides for us our every need according to His riches in glory! He makes a way when there seems to be no way. He has done great things for us! What an awesome God! Though those statements are true, if you are like me, then from time to time you need to be reminded of those things. Sometimes the chaos and confusion of life can rob you of your joy. Sometimes the stress of a situation can steal your song. It is in those moments that we must choose to remember how marvelous our God truly is to us! May we choose to reflect on our God’s goodness and faithfulness today!
