2 Timothy 4:6-8

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

When I played football our team had a saying- “Start fast, and finish strong.”. That saying always stuck with me, and continues to be what I hope is a reality in regards to my Christian life. The apostle Paul wrote his last letter to his mentee and dear friend in the faith Timothy. He encourages him to continue in the faith and in the ministry. Then in the last chapter he shares of how he was near the end of his life and within verses 6-8 highlights how he believed he has finished well.

I don’t know about you but I want to finish well. I want to live a life surrendered to the Lord the rest of my life until i breathe my last breath or He returns to take me home. That ought to be the challenge for all of us: to stay faithful to Him as long as we live. As we live lives for Christ, may we choose to consistently walk with Him, and walk in the calling He has placed in our lives. May we at the end of a season, or at the end of our lives, be able to look back and say that we have finished well.
