Psalm 113:7-8

“He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of his people.”

“Lord, take me where you need me.  You are the one who makes my way prosperous.  You guide me and direct me.  Help me be used by You for Your kingdom and purpose.”

This was a prayer I have prayed in similar ways through the years.  There was a time in my faith journey when I realized that all my successes, opportunities, and wins were because of the Lord.  Sometimes (and I know this was the case before my own realization) we can go through life taking the credit, and failures on our shoulders.  On one side, that can be a heavy burden.  That is why in Philippians 4:6 it says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”  What about when we put the successes on our shoulders?  It foster’s pride and a lack of important qualities like humility and grace.  Understanding that the Lord is behind the rise and fall of governments, hierarchies, and our own personal stories leads us to trust Him.  And thank him during seasons of plenty.  And rely on Him during seasons of scarcity.
