Psalm 30:1-3; 11-12

I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up

    and have not let my foes rejoice over me.

O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,

    and you have healed me.

O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;

    you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.[a]

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;

    you have loosed my sackcloth

    and clothed me with gladness,

that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.

    O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

One of my favorite choruses to an oldie but goodie worship song comes from the song Wonderful Maker and it goes like this:

What a wonderful Maker

What a wonderful Savior

How majestic Your whispers

And how humble Your love

With a strength like no other

And the heart of a Father

How majestic Your whispers

What a wonderful God

I could see King David as he is penning this Psalm reflecting on the Lord’s goodness in His life and what all He has done for him. He speaks to when he called on the Lord and He answered Him. He received healing and restoration during a low moment in his life. He couldn’t help but to speak on and rejoice. The Psalm speaks to how God turned David’s mourning into dancing, how in meeting David where he was, he had been clothed with gladness. Oh what a wonderful God we serve!

We too, if we have been following the Lord for any period of time, could hold and express the same jubilation for who God is and what He has done for us. He has saved us through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He sustains us in Him! He provides for us our every need according to His riches in glory! He makes a way when there seems to be no way. He has done great things for us! What an awesome God! Though those statements are true, if you are like me, then from time to time you need to be reminded of those things. Sometimes the chaos and confusion of life can rob you of your joy. Sometimes the stress of a situation can steal your song. It is in those moments that we must choose to remember how marvelous our God truly is to us!

Just like King David did here in Psalm 30, let’s choose to reflect on how wonderful our Maker truly is. How do we do that? As you spend time with Him in prayer and in His word, make space to reflect back on how He has answered prayer in your life and thank Him for that. Also look to make space to reflect on how He has blessed and taken care of you. It is when we choose to remember the times the Lord turned our mourning into dancing, and loosed our sackcloth and clothed us with gladness, that we are able to choose to give thanks to Him forever! Choose to reflect on His goodness and give Him glory and praise today!

SONG OF WORSHIP FOR TODAY: Goodness of God- Bethany Barnard

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Heavenly Father, help me to see how wonderful You truly are. Remind me of the goodness you have shown me in my life. Lead me to you. Help me to reflect on the moments and the seasons in which you turned my mourning into dancing and allow for that to lead me to have faith to choose to continually worship You. In Jesus’ name, amen!

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:

Psalm 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

    all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord

    forever.
