2 Peter 1:3
3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence

One day at a worship service the preacher decided to shake things up in his message. He opened up the service with playing some contemporary country music songs and asking the children to identify the lies they had heard in each of the songs being played. One of the songs played was by the late Joe Diffie entitled If the Devil Danced in Empty Pockets. One of the lines of the song goes as follows, “I’d raise some loot in a three piece suit, give ’em one dance for a dime”. After the song finished a young girl raised her hand and stated that line was a lie because one cannot dance with the devil. The preacher responded with a truth that is so profound in saying: “Actually, you can dance with the devil, and the truth is he always takes the lead in the dance.”

The bible tells us that in Christ, we have been freed from the power of sin and death. Because Jesus is alive and we have a relationship with Him, we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us, and are able to stand for God in the midst of temptation. Hallelujah! However, just because we are free from sin doesn’t mean we ought to choose to flirt with it. The reality is though we have the Holy Spirit, we still have our sinful flesh with us. Though we have the spirit of God, does not mean that we are immune to being caught up in sin and essentially enslaving ourselves to it once again. When we choose to flirt with sin, the ol’ flesh is going to win almost every time. So for us instead we must choose to flee from the temptation to sin when it comes.  How do we do that? By choosing to run to the power source.

In vs 3 of 2 Peter it tells us that it is through His divine power we are able to stand. It is not our own intuition, or our own will, it’s through the power of God in our life through His Spirit in which we are able to stand for Him and walk in the freedom we have been given. So we must choose to walk in the Spirit. Ephesians tells us to not be drunk with wine but rather be filled with the Holy Spirit. Choose to walk with the Lord daily and ask that He fills you with His Spirit.

We have been given everything we need pertaining to godliness in order to walk with God. The call though for us is to choose to walk with Him. Do not let sin become your master once again by choosing to flirt with whatever it may be. Choose to flee from it and draw close to the Lord, knowing that is truly the only way we are able to stand for Him.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your love for me! Thank you for your Holy Spirit! Help me to choose to live wisely in these days, choosing not to flirt with sin but flee from it. Help me to see that You are better! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
Luke 6:38
Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.
