I Corinthians 6:19-20

Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body.”

How do we glorify God with our bodies? Have you ever asked yourself this question? I know that I have struggled with my weight and making exercise a regular part of my routine for nearly 30 years. For me, I can glorify the Lord with my body by taking care of it. That includes watching what I eat because my food intake is what is going to fuel me for the day. If I am putting in a bunch of fat and sugar into my body, it is going to be difficult to stay focused on work and my family. Making some form of exercise as part of my life on a regular basis will also be good for helping me stay healthy.

Saying these things are a lot easier than doing them. I need accountability from other men to help me stay on top of my health. The challenge for me is to remind myself that as a believer, the Holy Spirit dwells in me and my body is His temple. When you contemplate that truth, it should make you think about how you are taking care of your physical self. I love the part of this scripture that says, “you are not your own, for you were bought at a price.” That truth convicts me in a good way. Honestly, I can be so selfish and do what I want when it comes to eating and choosing not to exercise. If I am not taking good care of myself, it will make it harder for me to be able to be used by God. The Lord wants us to be healthy so we can be around longer to share the joy of knowing Jesus with others.

Glorifying the Lord with my body is honestly very difficult for me. It is an area in my life that I will always be working on, but I am grateful God’s grace and mercy are abundant. Every day is a new beginning with new opportunities to take care of myself so the Lord can use me to tell others about Him. Let’s challenge each other to do a better job of taking care of ourselves. If Jesus can die for our sins, we can make improvements in our lives to glorify Him.
