Isaiah 9:6-7

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.”

I love reading these verses proclaiming the birth of Christ, our Savior. What is amazing about these verses is that they are found in the Old Testament, which means they were written many, many years before Jesus was born. It’s verses like these that make me realize how important it is for us to study the OT. What do you think it was like for the people who heard the story of the coming Christ? What thoughts went through their head?

I enjoy taking time during the Christmas season to ponder the wonder and miracle of the birth of Christ. It amazes me that God would send His only son to live life fully man and fully God then die a horrific death to be resurrected just so we could get the gift of eternal life. I pray that you will take time over the next few days to read and digest the Christmas story and write down the things that God is teaching you through His word. Let’s challenge each other to share the joy of Christmas with others around us and to let that joy carry over into our everyday lives. Don’t just share joy during Christmas, do it every day of the year. I pray that you and yours have a Merry Christmas and feel the love of Christ pour over you.
