Acts 1:8

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

What would have it been like to stand face to face with Jesus and receive this promise? Right before Jesus was going to ascend into heaven, He left the disciples with this encouragement and promise. They were taught about the kingdom and then sent out to preach about the kingdom. And their destination was to the ends of the earth. While this task could have appeared overwhelming and seemingly impossible, Jesus let the disciples in on a little secret: it is not by their power in which this task would be accomplished. The power of the Holy Spirit would fill and fuel their ministry. The disciples would not be left alone in their journey. They were not left alone in their mission. No, they were going to be empowered by God the Spirit. We too have the Great Commission before us. But let us be reminded that it is not dependent upon our power to save family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. But God is all powerful and He works through us. Rest in the power of the Holy Spirit and just be faithful.
