Revelation 1:1-3

1 The revelation of Jesus Christ that God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, whatever he saw. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear the words of this prophecy and keep what is written in it, because the time is near.

John was given revelation through a vision which was made known by an angel. That is what Scripture is: God’s revealed word to us. And those who receive the word, read the word, proclaim the word, and apply the word are called blessed.

The last sentence in verse 3 says the time is near. The time refers to the end of the age. It is the second coming of Christ. It is a time where the Lord will return, he will judge the living and the dead, and he will restore all things.

Because the days are drawing short, there is an urgency here to repent and turn to the Lord. We will either cling to Jesus in these last days or turn away from Him. Those who follow Jesus’ will and keeps His commandments are blessed. They will inherit the kingdom. Those who do not follow Jesus are cursed and will be eternally separated from God. The time is near. Draw near to king Jesus. Blessed are those who proclaim, hear, and keep God’s word which has been revealed to us.
