Psalm 139:13-16

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

Today as I celebrate my birthday, I am reminded of how precious life really is. These past years have gone quickly. Time seems to pass by faster and faster. My kids are getting older and taller. Where have the years gone? Like a vapor that is here today and gone tomorrow; life is like a vapor (James 4:14). It’s interesting to think when I was a kid, I used to look forward to my birthday and birthday parties. But as an adult, it is a reminder that I am getting older. In fact, I pretty sure my birthday gifts now are back pain, tighter muscles, and deeper breathes after physical activity. Boy what a gift! And yes, every year its the gift that keeps on giving.

But birthdays are also a reminder that I have been blessed with another year by my maker. The one who formed me inside my mother’s womb has given me another year to lead my family, love my bride, raise my kids in a godly manner, serve others, share the gospel, build the kingdom, minister to the broken, and enjoy life’s journey. The one who has numbered my days, by His grace, has given me another day. And what I do with the day(s) I have left matters.

So, today I choose to live for Him another day. Today, I choose to worship another day. Today, I choose to use the breathe I still have to praise Him. Because the one who made me made me to know Him and make Him known. That is why we exist. Thank you Jesus for this past year and the blessings of being made to live another day for you!
